Port Moody is a historic city that wraps around the east end of the Burrard Inlet, East of Burnaby and approximately 18km from Downtown Vancouver.
It was founded in 1859 by Colonel Richard Moody of the Royal Engineers, the same military troop that settled New Westminster. The city served as a year-round port for British Columbia’s first capital, but it boomed in 1881 when it became the western terminus for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The boom didn’t last long, though, as the city’s growth stalled when the rail line was extended into Vancouver in 1887.

Port Moody has a small-town feel, with a small population of under 40 thousand people (as of 2021), and is an excellent option for many looking for more outdoors and nature in their lives. For its size, the city offers a wide range of houses, condos and townhouses at all price points, and the demand for this city seems to be growing year over year. The town is no longer a secret; it has the best lakes in the city (Buntzen & Sasamat), and more and more people want to live here. Port Moody is an excellent place for young professionals, families, and empty nesters to live.

Port Moody offers various house styles, ages and price points. For luxury, Alderside Road (on the waterfront), Anmore and Belcarra have the most expensive homes where $5 Million+ sale prices have been reached. Heritage Mountain consists of many 90s-built homes with more extensive 3-level 3000+ SF floor plans and is an excellent option for detached houses in the mid-level price points. The Ioco area (Barber Street) offers south-facing views of the inlet. It’s bright and sunny, surrounded by trees, and has a sense of being away from everything. If you want to live closer to the city, College Park and Glenayre are great family neighbourhoods on the south side of the Inlet.

Townhouses throughout Port Moody, from Heritage Mountain to Port Moody Centre, with Klahanie, Corbeau & George being the expected developments of choice. College Park offers new and old townhouses and has more affordable options on a price-per-square-foot basis in Port Moody (and the surrounding areas). There are many age and size ranges, with 3-bedroom floor plans being the most common and wood frames being the most common type of construction. Port Moody is loaded with young families, and communities like Klahanie have excellent amenities at the Canoe Club and are full of kids running the streets.

Port Moody offers stunning water and mountain views, great amenities, steps to shopping and groceries, trails and parks, West Coast Express and the Skytrain, and is condo living at its finest. This city has options for all ages; Newport Village, developed in the late 90s and early 2000s, offers more extensive floor plans and great shops and restaurants at your doorstep. Suter Brook, built by Onni, is newer and more modern with studios and large plans, and Klahanie, built by Polygon, has a lower density, more park space, and is just across the street from the inlet and popular Rocky Point Trail.
