Capitol Hill is located north of Hastings Street, between Willingdon and Fell avenues. As its name suggests, the neighbourhood rises up an impressive slope that affords many residents magnificent views of the North Shore mountains and Vancouver skyline to the west, and Indian Arm to the east.
Neighbourhood amenities
Capitol Hill is a residential neighbourhood of mostly single family homes, with some newer townhouses being developed along Hastings Street.
Along its western edge, Confederation Park offers a wealth of recreational and cultural opportunities like sports fields, lacrosse box, playgrounds and basketball courts, a lawn bowling pitch, off-leash dog area, as well as the Eileen Dailly pool and the McGill Public Library. The Confederation Community Centre for Seniors is also a hub of community activity.
The park is also home for the BC Society of Model Engineers, a group of dedicated train hobbyists who operate a 2 km scale model railroad through the summer months to show off their carefully-built creations.
The Trans-Canada Trail runs along Capitol Hill’s northern edge, dipping down to the shore of the Burrard Inlet.
Shopping, restaurants and services can be found all along Hastings Street, from the vibrant Heights commercial district just to the west, to the busy Kensington plaza just to the east.
