Vancouver West – Fairview

Fairview is a centrally located neighbourhood right across False Creek that runs along W 6th Ave from Burrard St to Cambie St and extends all the way south till W 16th Ave and. The neighbourhood is home to Vancouver General Hospital which houses the BC Cancer Agency, BC Cancer Research Centre, BC Healthy Living Alliance and BC Centre for Disease Control. The hospital is an important commercial centre that employs many people. As a result, the commercial areas have grown, fostering many new eateries, cafes and shopping centres. The development of the Canada Line has also allowed the neighbourhood to expand and attract business owners to open up shop along Broadway and Cambie. It is a very vibrant urban neighbourhood with great bike lanes, quick and easy access to great amenities and close proximity to Transit.

Neighbourhood amenities

Broadway, Cambie and South Granville St all have commercial districts that offer very distinct things. Stores along Broadway are more professional and service oriented and and include shops like Staples, Michaels and Broadway Camera. Since the development of the Canada Line along Cambie, the commercial district that runs along the street has been noticeably revitalized. Residents, locals and visitors can find Whole Foods, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Best Buy, Save-on-foods and Winners all in one area. South Granville St is a commercial district where you can find high-end clothing and furniture stores as well as fine dining establishments. Although the areas are quite different, each shopping district has great coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

Living in Fairview gives residents fairly quick and easy access to False Creek and the parks that surround it. Charles Park is located right along the edge of False Creek and offers great jogging paths along the water, including green space to take a dog out on a walk. In addition, Granville Island is just minutes away from Fairview, where residents can walk to the Market and enjoy the Island’s entertainment option or pick up some vitals for a quiet dinner at home.
