New Westminster – Uptown

Uptown New Westminster is an urban, walkable neighbourhood with an array of shops, eateries and services. The neighbourhood is a vibrant mix of condos, older apartments and established single-family homes. It is bordered by Sixth and Eighth streets, from Royal Avenue to 10th Avenue.

Neighbourhood amenities

The commercial core of Uptown is the nexus of Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue. The Royal City Centre shopping mall and the Westminster Centre occupy opposite corners and smaller office and commercial complexes occupy the other two corners.
The area features two large grocery stores, a London Drugs and Rexall Drugstore, a number of banks as well as numerous smaller independent shops, services and eateries like the Coming Home Café and the renowned Tamarind Hill Malaysian restaurant. In other words, it’s pretty easy to get everything you need with a few square blocks.
The main branch of the New Westminster public library is also located Uptown and the neighbourhood is just across Eighth Street from Moody Park, one of the city’s largest. The 24-acre park offers sports fields for soccer, baseball, softball, a lacrosse box, tennis and basketball courts, lawn bowls as well as an outdoor pool, spray park, newly-rebuilt playground and a fenced-in off-leash area for dogs. A seniors activity centre and adjoining youth centre are also located in the park.
Culturally, Massey Theatre is the largest theatre outside of Vancouver. It hosts everything from musical theatre productions to international music stars like Jann Arden and Chantal Kreviasuk to orchestral performances to body building competitions.
Uptown Live is an annual one-day outdoor festival of live music that features up-and-coming local and regional acts.

Transit

This neighbourhood is very walkable. All amenities are close by, so you don’t require a car. Uptown is well-served by buses that transfer commuters to and from New Westminster and Columbia SkyTrain stations and beyond to other areas of the Lower Mainland.

Uptown offers a diverse range of residential real estate products. Newer and older detached house, townhomes, apartments and condos are available. Condos dominate the neighbourhood’s real estate market.
