New Westminster – Quay

4 10TH ST, NEW WESTMINSTER, BC V3M, CANADA

The Quay is New Westminster’s waterfront neighbourhood. Once populated with industry, warehouses, and fish processing plants, the area has transformed over the past 30 years to a residential enclave of condos and town homes stretched along a serene beautifully-landscaped boardwalk. The Quay offers a front row view of ships, tugs, log booms and even seals moving up and down the Fraser River.
The Quay is bordered by 3rd Avenue, Columbia Street and the end of Pier Park. It’s also a short stroll from Downtown and its two SkyTrain stations.

Neighbourhood amenities

The River Market is the Quay neighbourhood’s commercial centre. It’s a gathering place for residents and visitors to enjoy a laté or gelato from TreGalli, a pulled pork sandwich from ReUp BBQ or Thai street food from Longtail Kitchen. There’s an array of food vendors for every taste, Donald’s Market for those inclined to cook their meals at home, a pub, bakery, tea café and even a furniture store specializing in mid-century modern design.
A short stroll east along the waterfront is Pier Park, New Westminster’s award-winning waterfront park built on a reclaimed wharf. The park is a constant hub of activity. Kids enjoy its two playgrounds or running through its misters. Visitors can get a workout on two beach volleyball courts. Or just relax in hammocks, reversible loungers or two expansive lawns. And it’s all set against a spectacular backdrop of the Fraser River and three bridges that span it.
Head west from the market, along the lush gardens and lagoons that border the boardwalk, and you’ll reach an off-leash dog park. A little further, up and over the overpass, you’ll be able to quench the thirst you’ve worked up at Steel & Oak, New Westminster’s renowned microbrewery.
