Central Coquitlam is a large residential neighbourhood on the south slope of “The Bump,” that stretches from Como Lake Road to Brunette Avenue, between Hickey and Blue Mountain streets.
Neighbourhood amenities
Central Coquitlam lives up to its name by being in the centre of most of the city’s recreational and cultural activities.
Mundy Park is in the neighbourhood’s northwest corner. Its 435 acres are laces with hiking trails, an outdoor pool, picnic area, sports fields and baseball diamonds. It’s a forested oasis in the middle of suburbia that sometimes even attracts bears.
At the opposite end of the neighbourhood, Blue Mountain Park is more developed with baseball diamonds, playgrounds and forested picnic areas.
In between, the Poirier Sports Complex is a year-round multi-recreational facility for swimming, hockey, lacrosse, curling, ringette and figure skating. It’s located next the the city’s main library branch and just across the street from a covered tennis complex and the Dogwood Pavilion community centre.
Nearby the Vancouver Golf Club is a private members’ course that has hosted prestigious professional tournaments like the Canadian Women’s Open.
Shops and services, like grocery and drug stores, can be found along the commercial strips on Austin and Brunette avenues. Big box retailers like Canadian Tire, Staples, Toys R Us and Ikea are located on nearby Lougheed Highway and United Boulevard.
