641 Sperling Ave, Burnaby, BC V5B 4H6, Canada

Neighbourhood amenities

Sperling-Duthie is in the middle of all the best of North Burnaby including shopping, restaurants, parks and recreational facilities.

The Kensington Square shopping centre has a variety of shops, services and restaurants, including a grocery store, wine shop, bank, bakery, drug store and produce stand. Just a short drive west along Hastings Street, the Heights shopping district is like a trip around the world without the jet lag as Italian delis sit next to Vietnamese Pho restaurants next to Parisienne cafés.
It’s also easy to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life as the Sperling-Duthie neighbourhood is close to two of Burnaby’s most renowned parks.

The Burnaby Mountain Conversation Area, which wraps around Burnaby Mountain, offers kilometres of forested hiking and biking trails, spectacular views from the North Shore Mountains to Vancouver Island, a beautiful rose garden.

The top of the mountain is also home to Simon Fraser University, a world-class research school with more than 30,000 students, 1,000 faculty and staff, and some famous architecture that’s been featured in big-budget Hollywood movies like The Sixth Day and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

At the foot of Burnaby Mountain, and just to the northeast of the Sperling-Duthie neighbourhood, Barnet Marine Park offers the city’s only sandy beach, viewing of wildlife like eagles, cormorants and even the occasional passing whale or seal, all against the spectacular backdrop of the North Shore Mountains and Indian Arm. The park also has a boat launch and pier from which fishers and crabbers try their luck.

Sperling-Duthie is also handy to two golf courses. The Kensington Pitch and Putt, along the neighbourhood’s western edge, shares space with sports fields for baseball, softball and soccer, as well as tennis courts and a hockey rink. And on the eastern edge, Burnaby Mountain Golf Course is a full-sized championship course that has a restaurant, clubhouse and driving range.
