Burnaby – Montecito

Montecito is an established residential neighbourhood nestled at the southwest side of Burnaby Mountain, next to the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course. It runs from Lougheed Highway in the south to Halifax Street in the north, Sperling Avenue to the west and Greystone Drive in the East.

Neighbourhood amenities

Montecito is mainly comprised of single-family homes with pockets of townhomes and a small cluster of high-rise apartments. The neighbourhood adjoins the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area, a forested park with hiking and biking trails and breathtaking views of Vancouver, the North Shore Mountains, and Burrard Inlet. On a clear day, you can even see Mt. Baker. At the top of Burnaby Mountain, Simon Fraser University is a public research university with over 30,000 students and almost 1,000 faculty. The campus is renowned for its singular architectural style, most of it by Arthur Erickson.
Montecito also includes the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, an 18-hole municipal facility with a clubhouse, restaurant, and driving range. Neighbouring Squint Lake Park features playgrounds, walking trails, tennis courts, and championship softball diamonds.
A small retail plaza, including a grocery store, is located in the centre of Montecito. However, the neighbourhood is handy to the busy commercial areas around Lougheed Mall and the Heights shopping district along Hastings Street.

Transit

The Sperling-Burnaby Lake SkyTrain station is located in the Montecito neighbourhood. Major bus routes on Sperling Avenue, Broadway, Halifax, and Duthie Avenue provide transit access for most of the neighbourhood.

Montecito real estate

The majority of properties in the neighbourhood are detached homes, with a few older townhomes. Condo sales have been limited in the past five years.
