Burnaby East is a suburban neighbourhood in the northeast corner of the city, along the border with New Westminster, between Cumberland Street and Canada Way. It is comprised mostly of single family homes, with a few newer townhouse developments.
This quiet neighbourhood is close to handy to two of Burnaby’s best parks.
Robert Burnaby Park is a natural getaway with a network of trails that extend up a wooded ravine. The park also features an outdoor swimming pool, a playground, disc golf course, and an off-leash dog area.
Just to the north of the neighbourhood, Burnaby Lake Park wraps around the largest of the city’s two urban lakes. The park’s trails offer lookouts from which to view ducks, eagles, herons and even beavers, against the backdrop of Burnaby’s burgeoning skyline. The water is often alive with rowers and paddlers getting in early morning workouts.
A lively commercial district along 6th Street bisects the neighbourhood. Multi-cultural shops, restaurants and grocerterias cater to almost every taste. Just at the top of 6th Street, the neighbouring Edmonds area offers even more options, including a public library and community centre.
