A trendy and hip neighbourhood located along south Main St, the neighbourhood runs along Ontario St, E 16th Ave, Prince Edward St and 49th Ave. Main Street is known locally for avariety of amazing restaurants, bars, entertainment and hip stores. Main is an eclectic mix of young families and professionals in an up-and-coming neighbourhood that has something for everyone. It is is an ideal place to live if you are looking for something more relaxed, but still close to the bustle of Downtown.

 

Neighbourhood Amenities

Owning a bicycle in this neighbourhood is far from uncommon, with many residents opting to ride along Ontario St into the heart of downtown Vancouver as an efficient way to commute to work and get some exercise. Many locals visit Our Community Bikes which is a DIY bike shop where you pay an hourly fee to use specialized bike tools to fix and maintain your bike. They often hold workshops and have mechanics to assist you if you have any questions. Coffee shops along Main St serve as a community spot to work, study or even meet new people.

The commercial district of Main St has many stores such as food markets, cafes, bakeries, ethnic restaurants, professional services and so much more. As a resident of Main, everything you need is in walking or biking distance. On weekends you can find many people out on the streets heading to brunch. It has a vibrant city feel to it, but still maintains the quiet and peaceful nature of the suburbs.

Just a little west to Main St is Queen Elizabeth Park, a gem of Vancouver, which offers great walking trails throughout, a garden, a biodome, tennis courts, and a pitch and putt golf course. It is a great way to escape and enjoy a beautiful view of downtown Vancouver and the north shore mountains or enjoy a day out in the sun playing frisbee, soccer or football.

Getting around Main St is quite easy if you live and work in Vancouver or the Greater Vancouver Area. Main is serviced quite frequently by buses that take transit users to Skytrain stations. There are many streets in the area that have dedicated bike lanes and is not uncommon for professionals to bike to work. Owning a car is not essential and car-sharing programs are available.

Main offers a diverse selection of residential real estate products. Buyers can find townhouses, condos and detached houses for sale with a mixture of newer and older developments. In 2016, the average detached home was nearly $1.9 million, condos were $591,000 and townhomes were $820,000.
